Mesh Surgery Complication

What is Mesh Surgery?

It is a surgery where an artificial mesh is implanted to reconstruct the weakened natural pelvic floor support. Mesh comes in the form of tape which is the most commonly used.

Why pelvic floor reconstructive surgery is needed?

It is indicated in medical practice that reconstructive surgery is recommended to those with pelvic floor disorder (PFD) to correct their Urinary Incontinence (UI) and Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP).

Complications

Range from pain, infection to death.

Why Complications?

Even during normal defecation, pelvic floor also descends, this will put extra load on the mesh, because the artificial mesh is non-stretchable. When the tissue where the mesh hold subjected to the repeated frequent threats of extreme pressure by the mesh, the tissue damages, gives ways and eventually lead to complications: like pain, infection and erosion, depends on severity and chronicity.

What are the solutions for the complication?

  •  Removal

For the sling for UI, a successful removal surgery may solve the complications but Urinary Incontinence (UI) is likely to come back.
